Collaborative Design Consultancy | Career-defining Role | Diverse Projects
An ambitious, design-led building services consultancy is seeking a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its growing team. Led by chartered engineers, the practice is committed to technical excellence, continuous learning, and a collaborative way of working.
This is a chance to become part of a highly talented team delivering high-quality, practical solutions across sectors including commercial, education, healthcare, and residential. You will take the lead on projects, contribute to internal development, and benefit from a working culture that values responsibility, trust, and professional growth.
The Role
You will lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services on projects from concept through to completion. You will collaborate closely with clients, architects, and fellow consultants to create technically sound, coordinated, and commercially viable solutions.
The role involves taking ownership of projects and helping to shape both technical outputs and client relationships. You will work directly with directors who are not only chartered but remain actively involved in delivery and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and coordination across multiple project stages
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, schedules, and drawings
- Manage day-to-day client engagement and represent the consultancy at meetings
- Ensure quality, compliance, and performance are maintained throughout delivery
- Contribute to internal technical standards and ways of working
- Collaborate with wider design teams and specialist consultants
- Maintain an active role in planning, delivery, and commercial oversight of projects
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (or similar)
- Significant consultancy experience within the UK building services industry
- Confident leading projects and managing client relationships
- Technically strong, with experience in HVAC and public health systems
- Familiar with design tools such as IES VE, Hevacomp, and understanding of BIM workflows
- Proficient in Revit and comfortable working in coordinated environments
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively pursuing Chartership via CIBSE, IMechE or IET
- Strong communicator with excellent written and verbal skills
- Motivated to contribute to team success and wider business development
This is a consultancy that blends technical rigour with a collaborative and forward-thinking culture. You will join a highly capable team, supported by chartered directors who remain hands-on and accessible. The business values quality over hierarchy, and your ideas and initiative will be welcomed from day one.
What You Can Expect
- Work alongside highly experienced, chartered engineers
- Genuine influence over project direction and internal development
- Early responsibility and ownership of key deliverables
- A learning-focused culture that supports professional progression
- Varied, interesting projects with real impact on the built environment
- A flexible working model based on trust and outcomes
- Competitive salary reflective of experience and seniority
- 25 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays
- Discretionary annual bonus scheme
- Private healthcare
- Employer pension contribution
- Hybrid working pattern (typically three days in-office, two remote)
- Flexibility aligned with project demands and deliverables
