Job Description: Geotechnical Engineer

Salary: starting at £30,000 per annum DOE



Job Overview:

An opportunity has arisen for a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in geotechnical projects, ensuring quality and efficiency in all aspects of site investigations and design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, supervise, and manage site investigations, including cost estimation and procurement of subcontractor services.
  • Perform geotechnical design with a focus on slope stability, settlement, retaining structures, and reinforced earth. Oversee earthworks specification, design, and supervision.
  • Prepare interpretative reports for geotechnical and related environmental projects.
  • Provide line management and mentoring to junior technical staff.
  • Prepare Health & Safety documentation and assist in the collation of project-related health and safety information.
  • Attend site meetings, liaise with clients, and act as a primary contact for project-related communications.
 
Qualifications / Experience / Skills:
  • A degree in one of the Earth Sciences.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 2 years in both geo-environmental fieldwork and geotechnical design/assessment (covering slope stability, settlement, retaining structures, earthworks, and reinforced earth).
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and occasionally away from home or during unsociable hours.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-working skills, fostering good relationships across all levels of the organization, clients, and contractors.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances and client requests, with a proactive and positive approach.
  • Proficiency in logging soil and rock according to current British Standards.
  • Understanding of relevant UK regulatory guidance.
  • Experience with software such as Holebase, CAD, QGIS, Slide, and Geo5 is an advantage (training will be provided if necessary).
  • First Aid, Asbestos Awareness, and CSCS qualifications are beneficial (training available).
  • Membership in the Geological Society (or a similar organization) with consideration for becoming Chartered.
  • A full UK Driving License (Category B manual gears) is essential.
  • Must demonstrate the right to work in the UK.
